Gene Lumsden, President and CEO of Legacy Sports International, was one of 15 employers awarded the 2010 Freedom Award in Washington D.C. for hiring a wounded war veteran as a new employee at Legacy Sports. Boone Cutler was injured while serving in Iraq and spent 2 years at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center recovering from his injuries. Cutler became worried and didn't know how he was going to support his family, "I didn't have a way to provide for my family anymore and figured the only way I could take care of them was to kill myself so they could get the insurance money, I was just fed up with fighting
the post-combat life changes…"

Legacy Sports International hired Cutler and made allowances for him to work while he continued to rehabilitate after being discharged. Gene also paid to relocate Cutler's family from California to Nevada. Cutler states, "Gene put me
on the payroll before I even started working… When I finally started to work he gave me the keys to the building and told me to work around my injuries."

According to Gene, "I just feel fortunate to be in a position to do something with my company to help make sure the people that fight for us are taken care of." Gene, being a war veteran himself stays true to the oath he took in the 60's and sees this as his duty to bear true allegiance to this generation of Warfighters. As Cutler so eagerly states, "I will be eternally grateful to Gene and Legacy Sports for giving me a mission in life after the military."
